There are varying degrees and presentations of substance use disorder (SUD). It is the duty of the experienced drug and alcohol counsellor to hold space and work within our client’s means, perspective on addiction and to provide appropriate harm reduction strategies and/or referrals. DOSE Botanicals does not provide clinical psychotherapy or psychiatry, therefore it is often necessary to work with our client’s broader support team (or help to build one) as to make sure they receive the best possible care and chance for sustained recovery.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Due to Jaynaya’s background as a complementary healthcare practitioner, we start with a holistic assessment to determine our client’s needs. The same process as a 1:1 herbal medicine consult (see above) will apply with additional considerations:

• the need for physiological support for withdrawal and/or co-existing health conditions

• the need for emotional and psychological support including a mental health assessment

• triggers, exacerbating and alleviating factors

• current drug use, both prescribed and non-prescribed

• sleep quality and quantity, along with energy fluctuations

• other relevant bio-psycho-social factors

Follow-up consultations are booked in accordance with our client’s requirements in frequency and duration. Each session has the aim to curate a personalised development plan to work towards the client’s goal/s.

Overall, it is of the utmost importance for Jaynaya to get to know her clients over time and allow them time to share their story at their own pace, along with what has and hasn’t worked for them in the past. This is all to establish trust, rapport and the most suitable path to take for them in order to provide the best chance of recovery in the ways that they need.
