Description:

Roman Chamomile is an aromatic perennial ground cover belonging to the Asteraceae family, native to western Europe, particularly the Mediterranean region. Roman chamomile typically grows into nice fluffy clusters of between 15 - 30cm tall and 3- - 45cm wide.

Growing Conditions:

  • Climate: adaptable to a wide range of climates and can thrive in temperate to subarctic regions.

  • Position: full sun to partial shade but can tolerate a variety of light conditions; performs best with at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

  • Soil: various soil types incl. sandy, loamy, or clay soils but prefers moderately fertile, well-draining soil; ideal soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral (around 5.5 to 7.5).

  • Water: low - moderate water needs; drought-tolerant once established.

  • Spacing: space the plants approximately 8 inches (20cm) apart.

  • Propagation: sow the seeds directly onto the garden bed or seed flats/pots surface in early spring and tamp securely (light-dependent germinator).

  • Harvest:

    • Leaves & Flowers: harvest the aerial portion of the herb throughout the growing season. Cut back after flowering to new growth in the autumn.
